Choral evensong and Concert

February 15 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Invite a neighbor and join us for an afternoon of musical prayer in honor of Absalom Jones, and in celebration of Black History Month and HBCUs.

The service of choral evensong has a history of nearly 500 years, and is of the great liturgies of the Anglican tradition. Close your weekend with this unique opportunity to unplug, reconnect, and be spiritually fed.
This edition of evensong honors Absalom Jones, the first black Episcopal bishop in US history. Organist/choirmaster Ted Davis will lead the St. Bartholomew Choir in the service, which will feature music of black composers including the evening prayers by Trevor Weston, evening canticles by Samuel Coleridge Taylor. Also included will be a choral setting of the traditional spiritual “Give me Jesus”.
Following Evensong (about 4:45 pm), will be a music celebration led by organist Dr. Samuel Springer (Morgan State University) playing our spectacular Casavant-Storey organ, joined by tenor soloist Terriq White, performing music by black composers including Florence Price, William Grant Still, Undine Smith Moore, Nathaniel Dett, and others.
